What a film! So masterfully crafted it’s worth repeated watching. The Salesman opens with a couple evacuating their Tehran apartment. Perhaps this is a metaphor for what follows; nothing is safe, who and what can be trusted: marriage, personal and psychological security, the police? Farhadi (A Separation, The Past) has excelled once more attracting eight major awards including an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and two wins at Cannes for Best Actor and Best screenplay.
The thriller creates ‘a solid and suspenseful plot out of ordinary incidents, and packs it with rich and resonant ideas’. AO Scott, New York Times
