Lift to the Scaffold

May 12

Two lovers meticulously plan the perfect murder: the killing of the woman’s husband. Things start to unravel when the murderer leaves evidence at the scene. Arguably the first French New Wave film, and also Malle’s first feature length outing as director, the film has a story and treatment much influenced by Double Indemnity. Lift to the Scaffold is accompanied by a sparse Miles Davis score.

Jeanne Moreau, Maurice Ronet, Georges Poujouly

‘Few debuts come punchier, cooler and more influential than this.’ The Guardian.
