Philip is a young New York author of considerable arrogance and world-weariness. Convinced his success cannot last, he refuses to promote his second novel. Both his partner and his literary hero (Philp Roth surely?) attempt to change this outlook. The treatment by precocious indie director Perry is incisively intelligent and the film oozes deadpan humour.
