Madvig (the superb Brian Donlevy), a politician, tries to clean up his crooked past which involves refusing the support a former gangster connection. Suddenly Madvig finds he’s been framed for murder. Loyal sidekick Beaumont (Ladd) sets out to discover the truth. Classic 40s film noir based on a Dashiel Hammett novel: expect the taciturn investigator, the femme fatale (Veronica Lake of course) and an intriguing plot. And is there a touch of homo-eroticism in the interrogation scene?
‘Alan Ladd is the cold, monosyllabic toughie… his performance more than anything else gives ‘The Glass Key’ its frequent suspense.’ T.S. New York Times
